Tried & Tested Hen Party Hangover Cures

Here at Team Hen we are guilty of getting a little too tipsy every so often, and attending a friends Hen Party is undoubtedly one of those occasions.

No one wants to be a spoil sport on a night out by not drinking, so we’ve compiled a list of weird and wonderful hangover cures for your bride squad. FYI most of which we have desperately tried at some point…

Sweat It Out

Admittedly the last thing you want to do when you’re hungover is venture out of your cosy Pyjamas and exercise. However, you 100% should! You will quite literally sweat out the alcohol. Even better go for a run outdoors and not in the gym, the fresh (late) morning air will make you feel tones better!

If you manage to convince the rest of the Hens to join you, it’s the perfect time to have a debrief about the night before as you jog along. ‘What actually went down with the male stripper then Lisa…’

In A Pickle

If you’re a fan of the glass jar delicacy you’re in luck. If not let’s hope you have good gag reflexes.

Ultimately pickle juice is vinegar, water and sodium, so it could be worse! By drinking about a glass full of the stuff you are replenishing your body with goodness.

It may not help with nausea but it’s does give you a well needed boost.

Cocktail Hour

The Prairie Oyster; if you know, you know. This 19th century cure is a concoction of tomato juice, a WHOLE raw egg, Worcestershire sauce, red wine vinegar and a dash of Tabasco sauce.

It supposedly replenishes the water, salts and electrolytes that alcohol has depleted in your body. But frankly it sounds revolting.

Alternatively, we suggest a virgin Mary cocktail (bloody Mary without the booze). It has very similar ingredients minus the raw egg, phew!

This can also be a good laugh making the next morning with all your gal pals.

Virgin Mary recipe:

  • Half a glass of tomato juice
  • 2 tbsp of lemon juice
  • a dash of Worcester sauce
  • a dash of Tobasco sauce
  • garnish with a stick of celery and slice of lemon

Tah-dah!

Lighten Up

Time to get a bit sciencey. According to medical studies, alcohols containing congeners, or “toxic chemical by-products,” could lead to worse and longer lasting hangovers. Typically drinks of lighter colours are low-congener. So avoid the likes of red wine and whiskey; sticking with beverages like vodka, gin, and prosecco. Now that’s a scientific study we can get behind!

Go Bananas

A banana a day keeps the doctor away. Not all hangover cures have to be hard-work or disgusting.

Simply whipping up a banana and honey sandwich could do the trick! Bananas contain a high amount of potassium which helps build up your electrolyte levels again. And the natural honey not only has the benefit of being delicious, it will also give you a spike of sugary energy for the day ahead.

Herbal All The Way

Milk thistle contains silymarin (pretends to know what that is) which has recently grown to hangover cure fame!

The popular herbal remedy has a long history of having been taken to help protect the liver from damage. Although some doctors disagree about its beneficial effects, it’s worth a shot particularly if you love all things natural.

We can 100% vouch for Milk Thistle - its rescued us and our squad a number of times!

You can get capsules online or in your local chemist or supermarket, you can even take them both before and after your night out.
